Project Aim/ Objectives
Aim
To ensure that there is a strengthened capacity during the implementation of culturally sensitive interventions for the prevention of gender based violence and for the management and care of survivors of violence
Objectives
  1. Determine common forms of abuse prevalent in the different nodal points.
  2. Assess practices that induced GBV, knowledge systems and attitudes that increase people’s vulnerability to gender based violence in the different nodal points.
  3. Identify services available to assist the survivors of gender based violence.
  4. List the interventions suggested by both community and professional, to address the problem of gender based violence.
Project Activities
This project was awarded to RHRU in October 2005 and commenced at the beginning of December 2005. The project duration was six months initially and was extended to 1 year. In order:
  • To meet the objectives the following activities were undertaken
  • Conduct a desktop analysis on services available in addressing gender-based violence
  • Develop a conceptual framework
  • Conduct situational analysis on knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) on issues related to gender-based violence in the four nodal points
  • Compile and disseminate an analysis report which includes gaps and recommendations.

Compilation and dissemination of the analysis report which include gaps and recommendations.

Anticipated/Actual Results
Actual
  • A situational analysis was done as planned
  • An analysis plan has been developed although it is still to be shared with the partners _UNFPA/DSD
Anticipated results
  • This study will build on findings and conclusions derived from the ISRD research which is being carried out by the national Department of Social Development, to provide more insight into the gender-based violence in nodal district municipalities in KZN province.
